Welcome to ECTA

The Electrical Compliance Testing Association of Australia (ECTA) was established in 1995 to foster the growth of a professional and value adding compliance testing resource to serve the needs of Australian and New Zealand industry.

ECTA is an incorporated association formed by accredited electrical testing laboratories in Australia and includes accredited members from New Zealand. The association has more than 15 active members which operate laboratories in approximately 20 locations in Australia and New Zealand. Members provide testing services to the public in the areas of electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility, electromagnetic radiation, energy efficiency labelling, environmental performance, telecommunications and calibration.

ECTA members represent the highest level of testing competence available, via accredited testing and are independently audited by NATA, IANZ or an accreditation body that is a signatory of the International Laboratory Accreditation Committee (ILAC) Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA).

Many industries and regulators, routinely specify accredited reports to satisfy their compliance requirements, including the Australian electrical regulators and the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA). Companies that purchase electrical and electronic products often specify accredited test reports so as to minimise their risk of non-compliance and product recalls.

The members of ECTA meet regularly to discuss issues of interest to its members and the testing industry and to make submissions to regulators, public investigations, inquiries and industry surveys. The Association nominates members to serve on relevant Committees of Standards Australia and Standards New Zealand and to make representations to government inquiries.

Member laboratories of ECTA, test products to Australian and International Standards, which in turn allows clients to apply the appropriate regulatory mark to their product, albeit the RCM for Australia and New Zealand, CE for Europe, FCC for the USA or other compliance marks such as energy efficiency labelling.
