Type of Testing Services

Electrical Safety

Many ECTA member labs have accredited electrical safety testing facilities, capable of testing a vast range or products in many product categories. From Information technology equipment, electromedical devices, lighting, domestic whitegoods and commercial appliances through to light and heavy industrial products, ECTA members have vast capabilities at a location near you.

To find ECTA members who conduct Electrical Safety testing, Look for "Electrical Safety" under testing services on the ECTA Member contact page.

EMC

Electromagnetic Compatibility covers a broad range of standards that examine the compatibility of a device to function in and around other products. Unintentional emissions from an electrical product may cause interference, while many products need to exhibit immunity to interference in order to properly function. Typical regulatory compliance marks representing EMC testing are the C-Tick mark from the ACMA, the CE mark for Europe and FCC for the U.SA.

Almost every electrical and electronic device requires some degree of EMC testing and compliance. Because of this, there are a lot of hobby labs and consultants dabbling in EMC. We've even seen pictures of antennas stuck on the site of shielded rooms purporting to make accurate measurements. Don't risk a product recall because your device wasn't tested correctly to the required standard. Only ECTA member EMC labs have spent millions of dollars investing in accredited EMC test facilities that meet AS/NZS, CISPR and EN standards for Electromagnetic Compatibility.

To find ECTA members who conduct EMC testing, Look for "EMC" under testing services on the ECTA Member contact page.

EMR/EME

Electromagnetic radiation (EMR) and Electromagnetic Energy (EME) are by-products of electrical devices used in our daily lives, ranging from mobile phones to radar and medical imaging devices. ECTA has members that test to the ARPANSA and SAR standards for local and international product certification.

To find ECTA members who conduct EMR/EME testing, Look for "EMR/EME" under testing services on the ECTA Member contact page.

Environmental

Several ECTA members provide environmental testing services which include:

  • Temperature and humidity
  • Salt Spray
  • Vibration & Shock
  • Dust and Water Ingress (IP)
  • Wind and Solar
  • Acoustic

Energy Efficiency

There is an increasing emphasis on energy efficient electrical products, ranging from lighting and domestic appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines and air conditioners, through to swimming pool pumps and personal computers.

To find ECTA members who conduct energy efficiency testing, Look for "Energy Efficiency" under testing services on the ECTA Member contact page.

Telecommunications

Traditionally a highly regulated industry with strict standards and requirements, several ECTA members conduct telecommunications testing to local (ACMA and NZ Telecom) and international markets (CE & FCC to name just two).
